In response to the growing need for qualified, state-licensed counselors, the Pastoral Institute’s Clinical Training Program is designed to cultivate the essential skills and competencies required for a successful career in mental health counseling.  With a commitment to nurturing talent, experiential learning, and strengthening the Chattahoochee Valley’s mental health workforce, this program can empower new therapists to practice their passion.

What makes the PI Clinical Training program special?

This program is designed to inspire, educate, and develop quality therapists to address the ongoing mental health needs of individuals, couples, and families in our community.  It will provide master’s level clinicians and licensed associates with access to a variety of client populations and clinical experiences through partnerships with community agencies, individual, and group counseling services.  As a participant you will have opportunities to deepen your clinical skills and knowledge of the counseling profession through case-management and consultation groups, curriculum based- instructional dialogue, direct counseling experiences and immersive individual and group supervision, at no additional cost.  What you can expect:

Clinical Experience:

Trainees will participate in shadowing, co-therapy and direct delivery of therapeutic client services under supervision to include the following settings:

  • Individual Counseling
  • Couples Counseling
  • Family Counseling
  • Group Counseling
  • Introduction to Psychological Assessments

FAQ's:

  • What qualities does the center seek in a trainee?

    We seek candidates with good verbal and written skills, openness to learning and feedback, self-awareness, ability to articulate professional goals, personal and professional maturity, and good work ethic. Our company culture is extremely important to us and having someone that shares our values is vital.

  • How many client hours per week does the program require?

    Our interns will see approximately 8-10 client hours per week and our residents will see 20 or more weekly. These hours will consist of direct face-to-face clients and group sessions with agency partners.

  • What is the expectation of a program participant?

    We expect our trainees to participate in ongoing training and consultation available to them, compliance with the requirements of clinical supervision, attendance at meetings and staff activities, proper maintenance of case notes and use of the electronic health record, and compliance with the employee policies of the organization.

  • Would I be required to work on the weekends?

    No, our practice is open Monday-Friday. On occasion our community partners will have weekend events. If our organization chooses to participate these hours are discussed in advance and are usually considered voluntary.

  • Will participation in this program lead to a position with the Pastoral Institute?

    Upon successful completion of this program and licensure, we’d be delighted to consider you for a full-time position (if available).
